Medical Emergencies - Do's and Don'ts

A medical emergency can happen anytime, any place and generally when you least expect it. If a medical emergency should happen to you, here are some things that you should remember to ensure that you deal with it in the best way possible.
  1. Don’t panic
When you come across a medical emergency, the most important thing is not to panic and to keep a level head. When you don’t panic, you will be able to think straight and will be in the best possible position to help the person affected by the medical emergency.
  1. Do help if you can
If you have an up-to-date knowledge of first aid, then you should administer the applicable level of first aid to the patient. This will make the patient more comfortable until professional help arrives and in some cases, may save the life of the patient. If you are familiar with first aid care, you’ll know that the first thing to do is to check the patient’s airways, breathing rate and circulation.
  1. Do call for help
Make sure you call for help as quickly as possible as professional medical help should always be sought. If you do not have any first aid training, then you should ask the people around if any of them have first aid skills that may assist the patient. You could also call your local Urgent Care facility such as Urgent Care Scottsdale. Alternatively, you can call 911.

  1. Do not attempt to move the patient
It is very important that should you come across a patient in a medical emergency, you do not move them unless they are in serious danger. Unbeknownst to you, they could have a neck or spinal injury that you may unknowingly aggravate if you attempt to move them without the appropriate professional help.
By following these few steps, you could play a big part in seeing a medical emergency through to a successful resolution.
